What do combat engineers in the USMC do?

Combat Engineers. The name kinda says it all. In your pack; You will carry exactly what the grunts carry, EVERYTHING! That ***** gets heavy too. Engineers clear minefields. This is slow, tedious and dangerous. They also lay minefields. This is even slower and in ways more dangerous. Slower because they have to keep track of where they put them for a variety of reasons, and more dangerous because they often have to y trap each mine to make the enemy engineers jobs slow and dangerous. There are no 8 to 5 days for grunts, thats just crazy thinking, it's a 24 hr. kind of thing. Yes, when stateside you get time to leave base, in the Marines it's called liberty. But you train a great deal. Deployed, it depends on where you are. If you're on combat ops then you will be igned to an infantry btn. and you will do everything from set up the big gp hootches to building the showers and shitters to standing guard stringing barb wire, laying mines, building fighting positions and guess what else? Combat ops. Yeah, thats why they call it Combat Engineers. And yes, you will learn carpentry skills.
