LDS-What does this mean "...will be built upon the American continent"?

It seems as though we will be doing a lot of traveling during the Gathering of Israel. Ever since the saints came to Independence, Missouri, it was revealed that that would be Zion. However, we have yet to build a temple there, so I don't know if that will be happening soon. (I'd provide you with scripture references, but you've already got some good ones and i'm too lazy (:) I think that at some point there will be conflice in Jerusalem and we will have to go there too. It's kinda confusing and I don't quite understand it, so don't listen to me.
